  • How Does It Work?
How does the PDK Transmission Work?

The PDK, which is an acronym for Porsche Doppel Kupplungs getriebe and means Porsche double-clutch transmission, is an advanced transmission that changes the way you drive your Porsche. How does it work?

A PDK gearbox uses hydraulically actuated wet-clutch packs with one enveloped around the other. With the double-clutch system, one clutch connects reverse, first, third, fifth and seventh gears, while the second handles the second, fourth and sixth gears. Unlike standard clutch pedals on the floor of a vehicle, with the PDK, there is an electronically controlled valve body that actuates the correct clutch when needed—only one clutch is engaged at a time, each alternating in fluid motion. Drivers will never even notice the gear changes.

  • PDK vs Regular
Is PDK Transmission or regular transmission better?

The PDK transmission was designed to provide Porsche vehicles with faster shifts in racing. With faster shifts of the transmission, drivers would have quicker lap times. Now, most drivers prefer the PDK transmission over the standard transmission, and up to 75 percent of drivers order their Porsche with the PDK.

With faster acceleration, faster shift times, versatility, lower fuel consumption ratings and overall a lower vehicle weight, choosing the PDK transmission for your Porsche as a resident in the Los Angeles, CA, area just might be the right option.
